Dear PCOA Campgrounds,

Your association is carefully monitoring the evolving COVID-19 pandemic and is in regular contact with government entities for information and guidance. Our primary concern is for the health and safety of our campers, staff and public. On Friday March 20 th at 8:35 PM we were granted (by the Governor’s office) clarification that campgrounds are a life-sustaining essential business and may remain open. This may change moving forward, if we do not comply with the guidelines concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. The failure of our parks to take measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 will result in campgrounds being closed indefinitely. We would like to share some of the information your facility must consider and implement.

Our campgrounds got an exemption for the time being as a life-sustaining business. Some aspects of our daily operations are not considered life-sustaining. Please realize that being allowed to host guests is not a license to resume normal operations. The exemption is based on being allowed to host campers and provide lodging. This was based on limited staffing and limited consumer interaction. It is also based on our members doing due diligence to limit and stop congregation of guests. Our campgrounds need to have policies in place if they are remaining open. Those policies need to include what you are doing to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Some examples include but are not limited to: If a park is continuing to keep office, laundry or rest rooms open it needs to have the sanitation and people limits in place. Play areas, game rooms, rec halls and other like amenities should probably be closed at this time. The encouragement of outdoor recreation that does not involve interaction with other families is recommended. Strict standards and swift action need to take place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and help flatten the curve.
